Weareaddictedtoover-sharing,butit’snotevenhonestsharing.Wehecreatedpersonasofourselvesonlinewhereweshareopenlywhatwewanttoshare,makingourlivesseemsbetter（orworse）thantheyaretogain“likes,”notfriends.Infact,asIsitheretypingthis,IamhopingsomeonewillreadthisontheInternetsomewhereand“like”it.

Now,technologyisgreat.Socialmediaisnecessaryatthispoint,butIenjoyitalldoses.IwasneverthepersontoupdatetheInternetoneverymoveImadethroughouttheday（“Goodmorning！”“Brushingmyteeth.”“Ugh,traffic.”“Happyhour！”“Goodnightworld”）.

Forevery“con”ofsocialmedia,therearefive“pros.”Itisgreatwhenmenandwomeninthemilitaryaredeployedandtheycanstillaccesstheirsocialmediaaccountsandkeepintouchwithlovedones.It’swonderfulyoucanshareyourchild’spictureswithyourfamilyscatteredallacrossthecountryorworld.Mywritingwouldnothethereadershipitcurrentlydoeswithouttheexistenceofsocialmedia.Irealizethis,andIwouldneverhopeforanalternateuniversewheretherewasnoonenamedMarkZuckerberg.

Ifeelsafeinsayingsocialmediaisactuallyquiteanti-social.Wearegainingfollowers,butlosingfriends.Wearesoover-connectedtooneanother,wedisconnectwiththepeoplewhomatter.Wearewirelessbutwiredin,leingnoroomtoseewhatisgoingonintheperipheral.WeFaceTime,onlynotwiththepersonwearesittingacrosromatdinner.Ithasgottentothepointwherewordslike“phubbing”（snubbingahumanbeinginforoftechnology）hebeencreatedtodiagnosethisaddictiontoourphones.

Whenwasthelasttimeyouwenttoarestaurant,lookedaroundanddidn’tseeatableofpeoplewiththeirnosesburiedintotheirphones？
